$5.80 Sliced Prawn & Pork Rib Noodles
A spur of the moment decision this past weekend led me back to Blanco Court Prawn Mee, a stall I haven’t visited in years but has recently left me disappointed. I think the absence (yes, a lack of prawn noodles is considered a significant absence) of this stall from my life led me to put it on a mental pedestal, thinking it to be something it really wasn’t.

The Old Stall Hokkien Street Famous Hokkien Prawn Noodle has gradually made its way onto my favorites list, at first mainly out of convenience. In fact, the only reason why I hadn’t written about them sooner is the sheer unphotogenic nature of the dish – as pictured above – but it doesn’t impact the integrity of the food!
The stall I most regularly frequent is located at Hong Lim Market & Food Center, due to my family’s love for the Bak Chor Mee stall in the same complex. As much as I love myself a good bowl of Bak Chor Mee, I still find myself gravitating towards the brightly lit red and yellow facade of the Old Stall Prawn Noodles.

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been interning at a local photography company, and was introduced to Ah Hwee Prawn Noodles on my first day. This stall is located in an old-fashioned coffee shop tucked away on Selegie Road, a mere 3 minute walk from the office. After raving testimonials from several colleagues, I made it a point to pay a visit during my time at work.

This was another stall courtesy of my Mother, who learned of its existence through a newspaper article claiming to have compiled a list of the best prawn noodle stalls in Singapore, (we’ll see about that…) and saved it for my return from a week-long trip in Thailand which is the best kind of news to come home to.
“Big Prawn Noodles” ($6)
My Mother discovered 133 Penang Authentic Prawn Noodle & Lor Mee featured in an episode of “Our Makan Places Lost & Found” and excitingly beckoned me to the living room suggesting we try it the next day. Upon arrival at their stall at the new Bukit Timah Food Center, we were greeted with a line that snaked through the food center which only added to my increasing anticipation. I enthusiastically jumped in line and happily endured a half hour wait with the expectation of a prawn noodle soup that would satisfy my every desire – my pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

Khoon Kee Tasty Prawn Mee & Char Kway Teow has prevailed as my go-to haven for a big bowl of prawn noodles. Over the past 14 years of scouring the island for the best prawn noodles, Khoon Kee has always come up top, tried and true.
Located at Redhill Lane Hawker Center, the stall is centrally located and easily accessible as it’s not more than a 3 minute walk from the Redhill MRT station, making it the perfect place for a last minute decision Saturday lunch.
The stall is run by a brother and sister, who have come up with the serve an unlikely yet satisfying combination of prawn mee and char kway teow (which is very well done, according to my parents, who must’ve tried every stall in the food center over our countless visits).
